Baseboard trim before carpet installation???

I am finishing my basement. Can I have carpet installed prior to baseboard trim being put on the walls? I have an appointment set up for installation next Tues. & Weds. but will not be able to finish all of the baseboard trim and install it by then. Should I cancel the appointment until I can do so??? Thing is that I would really like to have carpet down there soon???

Most tend to recommend baseboard first. It's installed 3/8" off the floor so the carpet can tuck under it for a nice finished edge.

If you don't have time to finish installing baseboad before the carpet comes, you will find the following thread helpful:

Hand the installers a scrap of your baseboard to gauge how far out to nail their tackstrips, so when you install the baseboards it doesn't crimp and lock the carpet in on top of the tackstrips.
