Cutting Holes Through Carpet
I have to cut 1 1/2" round holes through my floor that is carpeted and padded. What is the best tool to get through the carpet and pad?
Thanks,

I would cut through the carpet/pad with a blade first to avoid pulling the carpet threads out...(utility knife/scalpel) then drill through the subfloor..... Trying to drill through carpet can often result in pulling threads from a long distance from the hole, ruining the carpet.

Yes the holes have to be in the carpet. I'm installing baseboard heat. I was hoping a drill bit or hole saw would work, but I didn't want to rip it.
I also wanted to get a neater cut than a utility blade would give.
