Does Commercial Carpet Need Padding?

My mother wants commercial carpeting in her kitchen (I tried to convince her otherwise).

So do you typically just lay the capet on the wood subfloor or do you put padding down?

Thanks for your input!

I don't know how old your mother is, but she might appreciate the extra cushion underfoot. Depending on application, commercial carpet can be direct glue down or double glue down with cushion, or traditional installation like residential carpet.

While carpet is not typically considered a practical floor covering, many older ladies prefer it. They get out their little electric brooms to collect the crumbs and don't worry about mopping. A professional carpet cleaner can be called, but if your mom is like mine was, she gets out her little carpet cleaner ever once in a while.

So if I just glue it down the the subfllor, will it hold up for about 10 years?

I really want to avoid installing tack strip and expensive padding too.

Thanks in advance for the input.

With normal use, the glue down installation of commercial carpet should last far longer than ten years in a residential setting.
