Carpeting over Concrete
I'm thinking about installing carpet on a concrete slab (at-grade). The slab is in good condition and no moisture issues. The carpet will cover a family room and a bedroom, so average to below- average foot traffic. As I begin my research for the best underlayment and/or pad (cushion) and carpet, my two big concerns/worries are 1) cold concrete leading to cold carpet and 2) uncomfortable carpet due to being installed on hard concrete.
My question is what underlayment and padding recommendations do you have to address my concerns? Don't want to raise the floor heighth with a floating wood subfloor if I can avoid it.
In my limited research thus far, I'm wondering if using a fiberboard (ie Homasote ComfortBAse or Dri Core) and a 1/2" Urethane cushion would work. Any thoughts?
