Carpet Patching

I have a section of carpet by the baseboard that my cat has completely scratched up, and have a 3" spot where there is no carpet. Is there a way to repair this? PLEASE HELP!

Do you have any scraps or a closet you take a piece from? What kind of carpet is it?

It's brown if that helps. I don't know what kind. I am sure I could get some from the closet area though. Then what?

This kind of work is best left to a pro. If the damage is restricted to that 3 inch diameter area, there is a tool called a "cookie cutter" which will cut a 3 inch diameter hole in your carpet. The installer will then also cut a 3 inch diameter piece of carpet out of your closet. Then he'll probably use double sided carpet tape to stick the repair piece down and use a carpet seam sealer in the seam between the original carpet and the patch.

If it's a larger area that's damaged, an installer can still use hot melt tape to replace a larger piece of carpet, but the bigger problem at that point may be to get a larger piece of matching carpet. Again, this kind of work is best left to a pro.

It's always a good idea whenever you have carpet (or any interior furnishing) installed, to save any scrap pieces just for occasions such as this.
