stud sensor

I'm looking for a stud sensor that will work over carpet and plywood subfloor to find joists. I've gotten the $55+ versio of Ziron and Stanley from Lowes. neither of them worked. Is there a finder that reliability works over carpet?
Thx

Normally I'd say you can't read thru plywood to find studs..... but I've been reading some literature that says you can with deep scan.

I don't think you can read thru carpet and subflooring to find beams at all.

I agree with PJ...walls with sheetrock (even extra thick) are one thing...but carpet, pad, subfloor and underlayment?

Have to ask...what are you trying to do? There may be another way.
