I need to take up the carpeting in a room and reinstall it a few days later. How can I undo the seam at the doorway? Any way to melt the glue without damaging the carpet?

Cool

There are 2 ways to do it...
Powerstretch back at the doorway, so the bubble created is at the seam. Then peak the seam and cut right down the seam, cutting the seam tape only throught the 2 edges of carpet. Don't cut the carpet. Before redoing the seam, you will need to remove the old seam tape from both sides. Don't just pull it off or the chances of delaminating the backing are great. You will need some heat in the form of an iron....(Read below)

Next would be fold and roll the carpet out in the hall, exposing the back of the seam. Get an old iron and set it on high. Apply it to the seam tape to heat it and pull the tape off. Just don't melt the nylon in the carpet backing.
