Carpet or Base Board - what's first?

Planning to install new carpet and base board molding - what should be installed first? There is not currently any base molding in this room. Thanks

As Sam said...baseboard. Just be sure to leave the appropriate gap depending on the carpet being installed. I think 1/2" is pretty much standard?

Yes, although it is somewhat dependent on the type of carpet used. That way the carpet man can tuck the carpet under the base. A shorter pile carpet would be less than 1/2" Check with your carpet installer on the height that works best for the carpet you've picked. Most baseboard is 1/2" thick so the scrap pieces make good spacers/guides.
