New carpet install - question about top riser with different carpet in room.

I just had new carpet installed - I do love it. But I have an issue that I want some opinions on before I go back to the company.
I planned for a patterned carpet on the stairs, and a matching color non-patterned carpet in the room above. We discussed how to handle the transition and I was expecting the edge/nose to be the same as the room of course, but the riser should have matched the lower ones. I am attached pics so you can see what I mean.

Is it not realistic to want that upper riser the same? Is there something that would prevent that, or make it less desirable, to do that??

Thanks for your opinions.

Yes, the risers should match. Since they upholstered your stairs, the fix should be fairly easy provided there is some left over carpet.

Yes the riser should have matched. Depending on the setup, the top step could most likely have matched also.
Would take 10-15 minutes to make the riser match.

I usually make the top step match too and break it at the doorway. It looks better from downstairs that way.

@sam floor - Really? Gosh none of the carpet companies I had come out to quote the job even suggested that was possible. How would that be done?

Does that Stairway lead "only" to that one Bedroom, or is that a landing at the top of the stairs ?

You break it in the doorway upstairs just like you would in any adjoining rooms with different carpet.

Vermont, the stairs are to the room over the garage. It's a bedroom/sewing/craft/attic access room.

The installer came and fixed it this morning. Said he did not even noticed that he had done that. He knew how it was supposed to be done. How he could have missed it, I don't know.
Anyway, only took him about 15 minutes, just like you said. It looks exactly how I had hoped now. Very happy.

sam floor - I didn't know if there was some "special" trick to make it a tighter, better seam. Since this particular doorway, at the top of the stair, will take more "abuse" than a normal doorway, I think I am happier with it the way it is, in this instance.

Thanks for the advice, y'all.

Is the step at the top of the stairs shorter than the rest or is that an optical illusion?

No illusion. It is a shorter step. Never really notice it going up and down though.

A properly made seam is the strongest part of the carpet. But as long as you are happy. That is what matters.
