Welcome to the forums!

Care to elaborate on why you are afraid to discuss this with the landlord?
Do you know what the humidity level is in your home?

Speaking with the landlord in a non-confrontational but forthright manner strikes me as a sensible first step. If there is mold, the landlord may have as great a concern and desire to address it as you. After all, he may be as risk to damage to his building.

There could be many possible causes of your symptoms, but mold is certainly one. If you can't bring the landlord in to discuss this, try to raise some carpet to investigate.
