3 different installers, 3 different measurements
I am having my carpet replaced. So I went to get myself three quotes to compare.....
1st one is with independent store, the measurement is around 750 square feet
2nd one is with a carpet wholesaler, they referred an independent installer to do the measurement, its 675 square feet
3rd one is with another independent store, The measurement is 825 square feet. This guy used laser pointer to measure..... (perhap that is why he has the highest). This store has its own private brand of carpet and keeps steering me to purchase its private brand of carpet instead of Mohawk.
My question is........ how is this even possible.... same property..... 3 quotes... 3 different measurements..... the gap is just too big.....

you can probably roughly figure sq ft of each room with tape measure and come up with a rough number then you will always usually have waste on carpet 10-20 percent is fairly common but a lot may depend on carpet roll length and how the installer may choose to have more waste to have less seams per example.

Roll width, area, and seams all come into play and how each guy approaches can be different.

It can depend on seam placement, type of carpet, etc. On some carpets I want to have as few seams as possible. It can depend on light source placement. Just a lot of variables. Tell them you want a diagram with seam placement. Seams normally go lengthwise in a room, because it looks better. Might take less carpet to go crosswise.

Eh, who cares as long as they all carpet the entire room and do a good job?
Carpet manufacturers who-do-installation don't care about square feet, they bring the entire roll.
Independant installers who purchase pre-cut, always have to over-estimate.
If they charge by the square foot, I'd just take the wholesaler, @ a 20% discount over the independent store.
