Planning for new carpet install in bedroom

We're in the "planning" stages for having new carpet installed in our spare bedroom. The floor in there currently has hard vinyl, glued down tiles. We don't wish to remove them if necessary (fearing they might contain asbestos). So hoping we can just install new padding and carpet over the top of it.
For the most part, the tile is okay with the exception of a few holes and small missing pieces of tile where previous furniture had sat. Do we need to worry filling in those spots with something? Where those areas of damage are not in a traffic area so would not be felt when walking on the carpet.
Thanks for any insight on what we may not realize or be missing.

A good pad will hide any minor imperfections!

I was hoping that would be the answer....just go ahead and get the carpet and pad installed right over it! Thanks for easing my mind!
