Carpet loose on stair tread sides

The carpet installer did not use tack strips on the side edges of the stair treads, and the carpet is loose. I am worried about the carpet not staying flat and fraying at the edges. Is there a DIY solution for this problem?

Should have mentioned that pulling up the carpet and adding tack strips on the sides was the last option.

I am looking at minimal effort for at least some improvement.

The stairs should NOT have tack strip on the sides. If it is loose, it was not stretched onto the stairs properly. There should be tackstrip in the gullies at the the top and bottom of each step. the installer can rub the carpet onto the lower strip and then kick it onto the upper strip to get it tight or use a stairstretcher. Tack strips on the sides would prevent the carpet from proper stretching from bottom to top. The carpet should be rolled under about an inch on the sides. That allows for adjustment because steps are not usually all the exact same size.
