As previous poster stated...it will come to you with alittle practice. While welding, after you establish a good arc, try to maintain about 1/2 tip to work distance. That goes for aluminum as well....

Also make sure you have a good ground. If what you are welding is rusty or coated with something then you are going to have to prep the surface.
