saddle valve shut off

Can I use the saddle valve to shut off water to ice maker{leaks]Afraid tu use shut off ahead of it -not used for 30 yrs?

hot water pipe leak

It's a 3/4 galvanized pipe.about 3 wks ago i i put a red rubber gasket patch secured w/2 hose clamps leak stopped ,now a drip shows.It's a hot water line 3/4 feed to house..I've used bar clamps on...

My table lamp goes thru sockets like about 1-1.5 yrs.It's a 3way.the bulb out last the socket.Been using pas&seymor.Maybe another brand would last?loc

Thaks for replies.It was just an expiremet with a with a cooking thermometer that got too hot for probe.later I took the probe and wires and fixed it.Then to test it put it on boiler.It works good...

Thanks for responses.I left it run awhile and it got bright,then would go out and come on.The base was much hotter than the other and turned black.I put one of the old ones in and it works fine.both...
