I am not a ford expert, but on some other cars, if you suspect a bad Mass Air Flow sensor and the car runs better with it unplugged, it is prbably bad. Just one mans theory though. Good luck

I have notice some Fords, not just trucks, wearing out ball joints. I would start there. Look for busted dust boots on the joints them selves. You may want to check the outer tie rods also.
