If that trans is an E4OD the hard shift is related to the MLPS mounted on drivers side of the tranny. There are TSBs about this at alldata. Replace the MLPS and the problem should be fixed.

I would look at the ballast resistor. Check the voltage at the "bat" side of the coil it should be less than 12 volts when the engine is running. It only gets full voltage when cranking, not running.

I would think that another reason would be so you know that the drain is running and not clogged. Also isn't condensate very acidic? I don't think you want that eating thru a pipe over time.
