So perhaps I'm just over thinking this a bit. Now I've found some articles that say using a 440vac capacitor with a fan that calls for 370vac is okay. If so, then the capacitors aren't what were...

I think I found the problem. The capacitors that were sold to me with these motors were 35+7.5mMFD 440V rated. Both motors were designed for 7.5MFD 370V capacitors. My mistake for trusting the...

Bad luck or User Error

I have successfully smoked and locked up 2 fan monors on my heat pump outside. So, did I get 2 bad motors or am I doing something wrong?

Well, now that I ran a couple "test" defrost cycles on the unit, it is mostly thawed out. There is still a little ice on the outside of the unit. While I had the panel open on the side, I managed...

I'm no expert, but running that much at that outside temp doesn't sound right at all.
For comparison, we have our thermostat set to 65 and it dips down to the 20s at night here, and the HP doesn't...

Defrost troubleshooting

Have a Tempstar heat pump that is on its way to a block of ice. Found it frosted over last night before bed. I let it run all night to see if it would correct itself. It didn't. Woke up to more...

Awesome info. We have a Fluke DMM on the bench at work, so I might borrow it one evening this week.
I was surprised when looking on the schematics on the unit. The fan is 7.5mfd 370V and the...

For mole control, there is nothing more effective than trapping. Don't get me wrong, using Grub-Ex is a great first step... I do it myself. However, there are still plenty of other food sources...

I replaced the fan and cap on my heat pump this summer, with a little help from this forum. :)
The other day, I found the fan running in reverse (only once). I've been monitoring it, and it...

You sir, are brilliant. I was not getting any power to the unit. After I rewired it, I asked my helper (wife) to go flip the breaker back on. Apparently she turned the water heater OFF instead of...

Heat Pump repair gone south

Long story short, I replaced the fan motor and capacitor on my heat pump. I can hear (and see) the switch making contact to complete the circuit, but the fan never spins... no hum or click. It's as...
