You were right it just needed the 3/8" brass flare cap, and they did have it at lowes it's just not on their website.

It was capped fine but then I did what Ron53 suggested above to take off the...

I measured the width of the threads OD on the flare adapter, looked about 5/8".
I already ordered those caps but if they don't fit I'll just get a 1/2" iron cap. Thanks

It's not damaged, does it matter what size thread for the cap? Those two options seem pretty close in size I assume they will both screw on but I dont know which is the correct fit.
