Put a pair of channel locks on it and bend it up...

Put a pair of channel locks on it and bend it up 90* from the duct. Hit the channel locks with a mallet/hammer. It’ll drag the drive off the duct.

Check for a stuck/welded contactor. If ok check for a constant call on the control wire with your meter.

Not to mention pulling air into the garage from the house then exhausting it...

Yes you’ll need a meter. And you’ll be working with live high voltage.

Is the blower running? All the vents open?
Should be able to see the inlet side of the coil to tell if itís dirty.

Youíll need a crimping tool to put on the spade terminal.
In one of your previous photos it appears the red wire is melting as well.

The equipment doesn’t consume refrigerant as it runs. The refrigeration circuit is a closed, sealed loop.

Leaks aren’t good. If your unit keeps freezing due to low charge the leak should be fixed quickly.
