You can caulk the gap but if the floor slopes that way, there's little that can overcome a significant amount of water short of grinding some of the concrete away to create the proper slope.

If you completely covered the floor with the BIN, I very much doubt that's the source of the odor. I would get a black light and see if that reveals anything - urine will fluoresce under black light...

Personally, I'm not a fan of combinations of grey and tan and I see that with the first couch being grey and the rug having tan in it. I would opt for the second of the two, were they my only choices.
