This is getting off into other areas that weren't even a concern when I posted. All I know is that we get flickering lights when the AC starts, but not when the wind blows, so it's not loose...

PJMAX, I'm thinking it's a great idea. What could work better for inductive loads like a compressor motor, than a zero-crossing switch? No spikes!

Zero Crossing Switch for Central AC Compressor?

Has anyone had any success with installing a Zero Crossing Switch in a Central AC Compressor?

I'm asking because, when ours turns on, it throws a huge power spike throughout the house and flickers...

Ok, well it looks like we've been all over this and I didn't remember. I'll have to find something on my own, or just get a tabletop unit and haul water to it every day. Thanks.

Recommendation?: Good but not expensive through-wall humidifier - NOT Aprilaire?

We have an Aprilaire 360 and are tired of the valve going bad, about every 2 years.

So could someone recommend a good through-the wall humidifier that can hook up to the same 1/4" water line and...

Better replacement for Aprilaire 4191 solenoid valve, or entire 360 humidifier?

We're in Denver, which is pretty dry - classified as semi-arid, and bought this Aprilaire 360 when we got this house, in 2005. It's a through-the-wall humidifier, that goes between the laundry room...

Are latch plates supposed to stick out so far that they cut my arm?

This is a IRC modular house, that we had put on our lot in 2004. The latch plates stick out so far from the wood, that they keep cutting my arm as I walk by them. Are they supposed to stick out that...

So it's...

Gas forced air furnace in modular home - taking long time to start up

This is a different kind of gas forced air furnace, because it's in a modular home, and there's apparently no way to do any yearly maintenance on these, from what we've been told.

So I just...

Converted T8 fixtures to LED. Are they inductive or resistive loads now?

I'm asking this, for the purpose of figuring out which kind of digital timer to use on these lights, now.

Front door seems warped - how to fix this?

I've had two handymen try to fix this problem already. They both tried adding rubber trim. Didn't work. From what I can tell, the top of the door actually appears warped, but this is a metal door,...
