The vents do not seem to act as a blocker/baffle as such I think the insulation is directly exposed to airflow coming in from the soffit vents....

I think what you're saying is that the vent valve shouldn't (in theory) be a source of smell and it is correctly installed (i.e. it shouldn't have a trap) - all assuming it is functioning correctly....
