refill bobbin without unthreading

I have an old JC Penny (similar to Singer).
Is there a way to re-fill the bobbin without
unthreading?

You can, but you risk breaking the needle and the tension on the bobbin will wrong (too tightand unevenly wound).

If you are concerned with being able to rethread the machine, you may want to make a rough sketch of the route of the thread, and also showing yourself which direction (right/left counterclockwise/clockwise) that you take the thread through, around etc. on the machine.

Hope this helps,

Kay

There is a way to refill a bobbin on most machines without rethreading. Cut the thread at the spool, leaving the thread still in place in the machine. Wind the bobbin (this works only if the bobbin winding function disables the needle mechanism). When finished, tie the thread from the spool to the cut thread and pull the thread from the other end of the needle until the knot is past the needle.
