Smile hoop skirts

What do you use in place of whaleboning for making hoop skirts?

Sewing stores and some craft stores have plastic that can be used for this. It is round shaped and flexible.

I tried to search for the specific name of this type product, but didn't have any luck.

As recommended, check with your local fabric and sewing supply shop. Simplicity has hooped costume patterns. If they don't have the hoop wire at the fabric shop, perhaps they can order it for you. Sometimes costume shops have hoop wire. Wire may be referred to as bone casings, which are steel coated with plastic and sold in coils for making hoops. You should be able to find patterns and supplies online.

Hoop skirts

Hi

When my eldest step-daughter got married, her younger sister wore a petticoat under her dress similar in style to a hooped garment. We used florist wire threaded through a channel in the hem.

Of course this depends on how heavy the fabric you are using is.

Hope this helps
