Unhappy Dressmaker 4000

I have a Dressmaker Maker 4000 Sewing Machine Serial #2041 and its having a weird problem. It keeps skiping stitches but not just one or two but almost all of them. Out of like 20 stitches it will only latch onto 1 or 2 of them. We looked all over the internet but couldn't find anything about a model 4000 or one that looks any thing like it. I think the tension is off but I dont know if that would be causing the problem. It was given to me used so I don't have a manuel or anything. It looks like it was made in the 50's or 60's

I have two pictures of it here that I took:

Any one have any ideas????

Hi Baptistkitty,
Welcome to the DIY Forums.

It sounds like your machine may be out of time. The needle and the hook tip(part that causes the bobbin thread to be picked up) must be in time to work properly. If the two are not meeting at the same precise moment, they will miss each other and the threads will not hook. This will also happen if you have an incorrect needle, blunt needle, or bent internal parts.

Take your machine to a service center specializing in sewing machines to have it checked. They can tell you exactly what is wrong if its something other than the timing. If nothing else wrong they will time it for you.

Good luck with your projects.
