snap button repair

snap button repair

I have a broken snap button, bootm part only. I have the replacement but do not have the actual tool to attach it-it is not the sew on type. Is there any common tool or method I can use to crimp the two pieces of the bottom end together.

tkanks

You'll need a special snap fastener tool (there's a few different kinds) that you'd have to buy at a sewing place like Joann's or Hancock's. Another option would be to try a dry cleaner that does alterations. I'm not aware of anything lying around the house that could snap them together correctly, sorry. Oh, possibly a grommet kit, that you could pick up at a hardware store, but it would have to be the same size.

one more thing does the tool apply pressure at the top of the button or around the outer edge.

Hmm, not really sure, but I'd think top and bottom more likely. I've only used the sew on kind. There's two types of tools, the gripper pliers and a sort of form that you set the snaps into, then hit with a mallot.
