Question engineered wood floow

I have a house pier and beam foundation and wish to install new wood floors. My question is, is it better/neccessary to install backer board/plywood to increase the stability of the floor? If the existing wood floor is even enough can I just install new over old?

Regards,
Toby

you should be able to lay over top the old floor, the only thing i have found over the yrs has been to lay it in opposit direction as the old floor.

If you lay with the old floor your new floor will roll and sag just like the old one.

Woody is right. When laying the new plywood stagger it as much as possible and install opposite the old for a much stronger subfloor.
