Installing new hardwoods over parquet
Hi Everyone,
I'm going to be installing some new engineered hardwood flooring but I don't want to take up the existing parquet flooring becuase of all the horror stories I hear about getting the glue up etc etc.
Providing it's level, can I just glue or staple directly over the parquet?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

It sounds like a failure waiting to happen. You may want to consider adding another subfloor over the parquet when using an engineered product. Reason being; the proper fasteners for engineerd floors will penetrate the existing subfloor by only 1/4" or so if we're talking about a 5/16" parquet thickness.
Glueing down over existing parquet leaves chances for failure as well, due to waxes or cleaners that may have been used over the years. Furthermore, if the existing parquet is not solid to the subfloor you may get lifting very quickly as the newer adhesives today are strong enough to pull the older ones from the subfloor.
Be careful out there;
