quick repair?
I have just moved into an apartment, and the floors are in good condition except in one room. the landlord says it is not cost efficient to hire someone to finish just one room.
The floor is in bad shape (splattered with paint, dips, and areas where finish has worn completely off.) I want to put the minimum work into it needed to improve the way it looks. (I may only be here a year.)
The room is 11x12 with pine flooring -- can i lightly sand the surface to remove the paint and scuff up the old finish, then apply acoat or two of water based finish? can i do this with a belt sander or should i get drum sander? Thanks!

Quick repair
The quickest option is to cover floor with inexpensive rug. If you are only going to be there for a year, I would not go to the expense or the trouble to repair or refinish the floor.
