oak flooring finish

Hi- I just bought a house that has oak flooring that has been stained and finished with paste wax. I've never heard of this, but the previous owner said it was easy to touch up if there was minor damage- just use more wax. I've found that the floor is hard to keep looking good. Any suggestions?

usually once a floor has been waxed you wont be able to put another coat of finish on it (top-coat) because the finish will repel or bead up, and wont adhere(will peel) if theres any wax on it. only thing to do is keep on waxing it or have it sanded & refinished to bare wood w/ 3 coats of finish put on it. then to maintain it every few years put a topcoat on it & never wax again.
