Luan underlayment for Bruce engineered HW floor?

I have 3/8" Bruce Engineered Hardwood flooring I plan to glue down. My subfloor is 5/8" plywood, and level. However it has been patched too many times to glue on top of.

I planned on nailing 1/4" Luan over the plywood, and gluing to the Luan. Bad idea?

Does anyone have a comment on using this luan under the Bruce HW?

I think I am going to run with it.

I would not use luan. What you need to look for is a hardwood underlayment backer board. Luan has gone down in quality and the plys seperate to easily. Look into useing Hartco or another kind of underlayment. A good flooring store will have more info on these types of underlayment.
