Cutting out a section of subfloor
I have about an 8 foot by 8 inch section of subfloor that runs along a wall in my hall that has a crown in it that needs to be somewhat leveled out so my hardwood will lay flat. Question is if sanding don't take it down enough and I have to cut out the bad section will this weakend my floor. Also what grain of sandpaper would you recommend to take this crown down to size.

60 grit should do it.
Any subfloor removed would have to be supported when reinstalled. It would be better to cut along the floor joist so that a replacment piece can be installed on and fastened to the floor joist.
Hope this helps.
