laminate questions

Hello Folks, I just bought Mohawk Pergo like flooring. The package says to leave a 5/16 to 7/16 gap. I installed one of these before and the gap was only 1/4 inch. The upper end is almost a half inch and I don't know if the current molding will allow it. Do you think it's safe to use the 5/16 max gap??? Also, how tight can the molding sit on top of the laminate? I'm trying to avoid taking down the molding on this 20 x 25 ft install?? Thanks in advance for your help. Eric

Mohawk Pergo "like" ???? The instruction states, I believe, 5/16" MINIMUM. The board (core) manufacturer knows how much expansion to expect and states the gap requirement accordingly. Key issue is to satisfy the warrantee requirement. The molding is fine if it "sits" on the floor but don't force the flooring under the molding. The idea of a floating floor is to float.
