Flooring - Carpet, Hardwood, Laminate

I am just seeking opinions:

This is for anyone, who in the past year, installed either wall to wall carpeting, a hardwood floor or laminate floor - knowing what you know now, after installation, would you do the same thing again or install one of the other options?

I am considering doing one of the three in my family room. The home is located in Southern California.

A few laminate questions

We are having our garage enclosed and thinking of having laminate put down as the flooring. However the garage has a slight downward angle from the front to the back. Probably 1+1/2 inches over 25 feet. Would have had a cap poured but was told they would have to tear up the original slab or it would be no good and that was too expensive. Regardless, I'm pretty sure that the floor is flat and im sure the floor man will check this. Will I be able to install a laminate floor on this? Would it best to install the planks with the slope or across it? Also does anyone have any opinions or experiences, good or bad, with Ifloors.com? If one of my kids spills a liquid on theses floors and decices not to clean it up will this ruin the floor? Any answers would be truly appreciated as I need to make a decision about this soon.....BobRead More

I've actually already finished the project, but I had a problem that I'm still wondering about. I put parquet wood flooring in my living room, dining room and hallway, which meant surrounding a closet that divides the hall from the diningroom. Is there an easy, or at least logical, way to go around an "island" and have the flooring match up on the other side? I did it by trial and error - lots of error - and felt I was lucky that it worked in the end.Read More
