refinishing hardwood ??
Do I need to sand my floors all the way down to the wood to refinish them or can I just use a screen on the exsisting polyurethane to rough it up before apply new coats? The floors are in decent shape and are not stained. Any advice??

If you are sure the new finish is compatible with the old finish, and there is nothing on the floor to interfere with bonding. If anyone used pledge near the floor it is silicone contaminated and the new finish will fisheye. The problem is that you will not know if there is a problem until you are done, and a problem could occur in a localized area so a spot test may not work.
