refinishing old oak floor

There is a bright red stain on the old oak floor we're refinishing that we've not been able to get off by sanding or oxalic acid. I don't know what it is but it might be dye from an old rug--it's really bright red! Can you recommend someway to get it out?

When you said stain, it means it is exactly like the stain that was all over the floor before you started sanding. This red stain is deeper into the grain. Sand the stain out, or replace the effected boards.
