crappy hardwood floor

hi, i just ripped up wall to wall carpeting in my livingroom , the hardwood floor was a mess underneath, the padding was stuck to it for years andits got carpet staples that need to be removed.i had to use a prosteamer to get the old padding up because scrapping didn't work . now my floor has white blotches and staples everywhere .. i would appreciate any suggestions on floor products ro use to make the appearance better. i really dont want to sand down and refinish
the floor cause im am putting down a oriental rug anyway. is there a tool to remove carpet staples?
and a good stain and polish product that (wood ) help lol

I use a pair of needle nosed vise-grips for pullin staples generally, probably a tool made for it, but I don't deal with it enough to warrant looking for one. Sounds like you'll have alot of hole filling to do.

Hard to tell w/o seeing the floor, but from the description, I'd say that floor needs sanding & refinishing, don't know of any other way to get rid of the white splotches caused by the steamer, unless your new rug will hide these areas.

Good luck.
