height betw. rooms

I am taking out carpet and installing uniclick laminate thruout much of our new house. The carpet was laid with its pad onto the plywood subfloor. In the kitchen and both bathrooms they put vinyl on top of 1/2 inch pressed wood which is on top the plywood. I plan to take out the vinyl and put the laminate that looks like tile which makes that height even greater.

My questions are-
there will now be a greater than desired height difference at the thresholds. what is the normally acteptable difference?
should I remove the pressesd wood when I install the new flooring? and why was it used initially?

thanks to you all for this forum-- jim

The plywood is your subfloor, vinyl should not go on that, so they installed pressboard, and actually it should not go on that either, but the point is, either remove the vinyl AND pressboard or install new underlayment to match the height.

I vote remove.
