Time for sanding 400sq wood floor?

I will be renting a floor drum sander and edger this weekend to sand our living room hardwood floors. I am fairly adapt at DIY, but this will be my first experience w/ a floor sander.

I realize that there are a number of variables, but is sanding a 400 sf room with the three levels (heavy/medium/fine) in a day a reasonable expectation? BTW, I will have to use the edger fairly frequently because of the design of the room.

TIA

David

If the room is mostly wide open you should be able to get it done in a day. The size is getting pretty big I would give yourself a couple days so you don't rush anything. The biggest mistake I see is people rushing. The sanders have a little learning curve and it will take a little time to get used to them. Don't rush yourself. If you botch it, you will spend even more to have someone come and fix it.
