General House Reno Question (Refinish floors first or paint first?)

Just bought a house. 1200sq ft. We need to re-finish the oak hardwood floors and paint all the interior walls.

My question:

Should we clean and paint the walls then do the floors or floors first then paint?

Thanks

Either would be fine.

Unless you are a messy painter.

With a good flooring guy, there will be little or no damage to the walls to worry about.

I would refinish the floors first because of all the dust that will be generated and will settle on freshly painted walls. There will be an enormous amount of dust generated.

It will be easier, in my opinion, to clean walls after floors are finished and then begin painting. Flooring can be covered with rosin paper or drop cloths to protect from paint splatters. Carry a damp rag with you so you can wipe up any splatters. Put socks over ladder legs or wrap and tape rags on legs to prevent scratching floor while painting.

What the moderator said! Absolutely. The dust that's kicked-up when you refinish floors is amazing. It clings to everything.
