#1

hello..we are moving into a home that is 100 yrs plus and has old wood floors condition is good without the fact that there looks as though there was carpet or rugs on top and have left little faded diamond type marks throughout the floor. now is there something i can do that maybe they can be cleaned instead of sanded? trying to avoid sanding. Hoping some kind of cleaning product can fix this please help if u can!!!

I'm glad you asked this...I'm also looking for the same answer. Your floors don't have a finish on them, do they? Most cleansers I've checked into are for finished floors. We took up carpeting from our floors and need to find something to clean "bare" floors.

Most of the time this is caused by UV light, although dirt and grime over the years can build up where the rugs were not.
If it is UV light, then once uncovered it will slowly blend in.

If you are really talking about bare, unfinished wood, you will soon have very dirty wood. Let it go too long and you will have ruined wood. The only way to clean is sanding.
If the carpet lines are on finished wood, part of it may be UV light, part may be from oils and grime. Try cleaning with a good hardwood floor cleaner. Bona has an excellent kit.
