Floating laminate over carpet

I know that getting up glued-down kitchen carpet off a cement floor is a nasty chore. How about if I just leave it down, and put the locking (no anchor) type laminate flooring down over the top of the carpet? It's standard kitchen carpet glued directly, with no pad under it. The carpet is in good shape, just old and ugly!

Removing carpet from a concrete floor is not all that bad. Cut it into strips about one or two feet wide and pull a corner of each strip loose with an icepick. Grab the loose corner with pliers and pull.

There is no short-cut for this. The laminate floor would start chipping and breaking almost immediately after you start walking on it.
