Question

I have hardwood floors under my carpet. I would like to remove the carpet in my living room, dining room, and hallway. This is my concern; there are many staples and I don't know how to remove them without damaging the floor. Also what would I use to fill in the holes? If you have any other information on how to get started and what I might expect to find (any hidden problems that I might encounter)It would be appreciated. CLogan7916@aol.com

Have you consulted a wood floor refinisher? They might be able to help immensely.

The staples will have to come out. After you consult with the wood floor expert, my recommendation to pull staples would be a pair of NEW linemens pliers. They have teeth in the jaws and grab very well. If you can grip the cross wire of each staple they will come straight up.

You might (probably) need to use a wood filler to patch the hundreds of tiny holes, but your refinished floor will look good afterwards.
