Is estimate for gypcrete repair reasonible?

I found a guy that says he will chip up the thin-set on my gypcrete and pour Ardex GS-4 on the gypcrete for $1500. The are is 180 square ft. Is this a rip off or is the reasonable.

What did you pay the first guy that was unknowledgeable about portland over gypsum? Less then $1500 I bet.

Now, this other contractor wants $1500 to bail you out of a mess, which includes now removing the portland, without damaging the substrate too much. Who has more knowledge and experience with your situation? The question is, is it worth $1500 to you to have it done right?

Are you going over this with a floating floor???? I swear that is what was discussed.

Advice needed on shining up '60s wood floors

Hi there, I'm just finishing doing a rehab which was built in '64. In '65 the owners put carpeting over all of their wood floors and there it stayed until 6 months ago when we pulled it up. The floors are in great condition barring a few minor scratches here and there, there is not major floor refinishing that I need to do. I need some advice though on getting the floors buffed up to a decent shine. First off...removing all of the carpet tack strips has left holes all around the perimeter. What is the best way/product to use to fill them? What products and methods can I use to instill a nice, shiny look to them? I don't expect them to look like BRAND new refinished floors, but I would like to put a nice buff on them without spending a ton of money. Does Depot rent a tool for this or is this more of a job for being on my hands and knees with a wax of some sort. Any advice is appreciated as I've never done a floor buff before. ThanksRead More

help me get the paint off of the cement

I am attempting to install Mohawk 5" engineered flooring over cement that my builder totally covered in paint when he built my house 4 years ago. I have scraped the floor and after 8 hours and many blisters succeeded in getting one wall done. I called Mohawk tech support and they said to use paint stripper on the slab and wait 48 hours before I do any installing. I will be using their urethane glue. I have read on their internet site not to use solvents. Is paint stripper and mineral spirits a solvent? After I called tech support, in frustration, I used the mineral spirits down this one wall and then wiped the cement down with a wet cloth. Did I screw up? Their internet site says to chemically or mechanically remove the paint, but what chemicals are they talking about? I think I have gotten in over my head.:wall:Read More
