laminate floor with marble fireplace

I have a fireplace that has a marble face and surround on the floor.
I plan on installing the laminate flooring myself. When I lifted up the existing carpet I noticed the marble is 3/4 inch sitting on top of some type of 3/4 inch material.( not wood and it's almost like pressed paper)
What would be the best way to have the laminate meet the marble fireplace surround?
This house is 1 1/2 years old and I will be installing over a concrete slab. I'm using Shaw laminate flooring with the foam underlayment with attached vapor barrier.

If the marble sits higher, use an endcap reducer, also known as a carpet reducer, or a square edge reducer. It has the profile of an "L" sitting on it's side

Thanks for the reply, sounds like you are very informed about installation problems. Should I place the laminate under the marble or but it up against the marble leaving room for expansion?

For a professional look, marble can be undercut so that laminate slips underneath.
