vapor barrier overlap

I'm installing a laminate floor in my slab-on-grade house. I've flattened everything out with Plani/Patch and now I'm at the point where I need to put down a vapor barrier.
I'm going with 6 mil polyethylene but I'm not sure how much to over-lap the sheets before taping.

Can anyone advise me?

If your using a good clear packing tape with a good perm rating, you don't have to go very far, an inch or two. A lot of laminate manufacturers are suggesting an 8" overlap and no tape needed!!! YIKES!

I go a couple 3 inches and tape with 3M packing tape, to seal it.

8" and no tape??!!

I'm certainly no pro but there's no way I could sleep at night if I did that.
Plus, "wasting" that much would make you have to buy another roll.

I'm sure they'd be glad to sell it to me.

click lock laminate coming apart

Help! We had click lock laminate installed in our remodeled bedroom just over a year ago. About a month ago, one of the boards separated from it's neighbor, leaving an area which sinks down when you step on it. Obviously we try not to do this, but it's in the traffic pattern between the door and the bathroom. It's about 5 feet from one wall, about 2 feet from the other wall. Obviously, we try to avoid it, but sometimes I don't always see it, especially in the middle of the night. My brother-in-law in Michigan came down to do the remodel, and since we are in Florida, asking him to stop by and take a look at it and redo it isn't exactly an option. If we had the money, I'd just take it all up and put down wood-look tile, but that's not really a choice at this point. I'm afraid that the answer is going to be take it up and reinstall it. I suspect that it wasn't put down as close together as it should have been, or that it was not the best quality. However, since we didn't have a licensed contractor (not licensed in Florida) put it down, I doubt we have any recourse with the flooring manufacturer. It doesn't bother my husband, he just says, don't step on it. I'm afraid that I'm going to step on it wrong and break the plank or injure myself by putting my foot through the floor. My husband & I got a great deal on flooring. Someones rejected special order we bought it for $25.00 a carton was 89.66. Bought 32 cartons it's A nice medium colored 3/8" X 3" Northerb Birch plank. Yeah baby. Question: we will be installing this flooring in a hallway that has four bedroom doors,an opening into a travertine laundryroom , a coat closet & then opens into the main entry . We will be replacing the doors and jambs down the hall . It will also be installed in atleast one of the ajoining rooms. It will be a nailed down application. How is it best to run it in the hall leghtwise or crosswise? Our house is on a raised foundation. I was thinking of doing some kind of stone or slate in the entry, we bought a beautiful rustic darkwood entrydoor with the rustic nail heads and speak easy doors very ranch like I thought puting wood in the enrty also would be too dark and take away from the door. There will be carpet in the livingroom which opens to the left off the entry & I thought we should replace the old fake wood laminate flooring in the family room which is a straight shot directly beyond the main enry and flows into the kitchen and into the dining area which ajoins the livingroom and is carpeted at this time. I thought if we had enough it would make sense to do the wood in the hall family room, kitchen & dining area. How well will this type of flooring hold up in a kitchen environment. My husband wants to hold off on removing the fake wood flooring because he wants to redo the kitchen at a later date but at a $1.00 a foot I need a change. I figure breaking it up with the wood hall we can do the bedrooms in carpet remants maybe find another Banging Bargin!! Appreciate any tidbits from those knowlwdgeable in this type of application.
