Filler/Leveling compound underneath laminate?

What do you recommend for a filler/leveling compound for some low areas underneath the laminate I'm gonna install.

It's going in upstairs. Subfloor is 1/2 plywood, 1/2 on top of that MDF.
MDF is top layer. So, obviously a water-based product like thin-set would make the MDF swell.

I was thinking about using bondo.

Ideas & recipes please?

Thanks!

range?

not to hijack this thread but....is there a certain number of layers when you would decide that you should switch to something else? I guess my question is, how much is too much?
