Question ? too much noise from upstairs to downstairs

We have a home that was built in the 1960's that needs several repairs. I took the carpet out in the upstairs and we discovered hardwood floors that have a few bad spots. No biggie for now. My husband and I have a downstairs bedroom and we can hear the cats moving around upstairs. I wondered if I should take off the floor and put insulation between the two floors to absorb some of the noise.

It would easier to have the ceiling replaced and insulated.Unless it is a lathe intierior.
