Direction of planks.

I am going to attempt to lay 3/4 plank red oak flooring in three rooms in my
house and I have two questions , well two to start with. The first is my living room is 27 by 16 with the hallway connecting in the middle of the 27 ft wall.
and the floor joist are running longways. So to run the planks longways would
be running with the floorjoist and the hallway planks would have to be turned to run longways with the hall. How bad would it look to run the planks across
the sixteen foot wall in stead of longways. And I would like someones opinion
of the Harbor Freight Flooring Nailer. Thanks in advance

Because joists support the hardwood flooring, it is best to lay the planks perpendicular to the joists. Go to www.nofma.org and click publications to download for free the National Oak Flooring Manufacturer's technical manual on hardwood flooring installation.
